Accreditation & Associations

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges is a world-renowned accrediting association and one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the United States.

Accreditation by ACS-WASC is based on the idea of an on-going cycle of reflection and improvement, guided by the following principles:

(1) a school’s goal is successful student learning;

(2) the school has a clear purpose and schoolwide student goals; and

(3) a school engages in external and internal evaluations as part of continued school improvement to support student learning.

At the end of the 2014-15 school year a visiting committee from ACS-WASC came to YIS and evaluated our self-study and action plan. They spent several days with students, teachers, administrators, and other YIS stakeholders learning about our school community. The result was a continuation of the school’s accreditation status, reflecting the commitment of the school community to continual improvement with a focus on learning.

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board (US & Canada), which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students.  Many American colleges and universities grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations.
